The Power: His Resurrection

Philippians 3:10

Say, "Where's the Beef?" and a Wendy's hamburger jumps into my mind; a smile spreads itself across my face. Ever so quickly, from the 1984 commercial, I can picture three little old ladies in a fast food restaurant looking at an oversized fluffy hamburger bun with a tiny piece of beef in the middle. The one on the right looks at the clerk and asks, "Where's the beef?" Rated as one of the top ten commercials of all time, that phase has been coined by many to talk about issues from cattle to disagreements among men.

The world is asking, "Where's the risen Christ?" In a time when preachers are scratching the itching ears of the unregenerate world and bailing out of difficult marriages, the world is looking for evidence of the power that resurrected a dead Messiah. Where is it?  "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him” has been replaced with: "I'm moving to plan ‘B’ and I know He'll understand."  Jesus is stripped and hung on a cross, while the modern recipient of His grace feels that it is appropriate to sleep on satin sheets and dine on caviar. The light of Christianity that is designed to be a beacon in the harbor of despair has become a pin light hidden beneath excessive materialism and sensual relief. Where's the power that turned the world upside down?

The Bible declares that God spoke and the world came into being. His resurrection demonstrates His power over death, which is the final enemy of man. Do you believe in His power? Belief in His power is the doorknob of redemption. Turn it by faith, and you enter into the realm of God's kingdom. After its reality is answered with your convictions, then the next question is automatic. Where has it gone?

What must I do to experience the power of God in my life? This is a vital and important question. The Apostle Paul wrote that in the last days, men will have "a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof." They will look just like everyone else.  We are in the last days! The world is looking, but there isn't all that much to see out there. How we get the power of God will be a major part of our study today.

The third element is to sustain. Once we get the power, how do we keep it? This has been a major frustration among believers for centuries. The Bible has an answer. The answer is the best part of this subject; that is where we shall conclude our study today. The truth of the matter is that we can't keep the power. There is a good reason for this, as we shall discover. There is a wonderful alternative to experiencing the presence of His power in your life.
